Upcoming changes for New Zealand student visa
The New Zealand Government released the International Education Going for Growth Plan this month, indicating the promising future of the international education sector with exciting opportunities for current and prospective students.
As part of the country’s long-term vision to grow and future-proof its education sector, the government has introduced the following changes to benefit international students in the future:
- Work up to 25 hours per Week
From November 2025, students will be able to work up to 25 hours per week during their studies, including short-term and exchange students.
- Post-study work rights expansion
A new 6-month post-study work visa is under consideration, giving graduates additional time to gain valuable local experience after completing their studies.
- Faster visa application process
From August 2025, New Zealand will introduce a more streamlined visa system to reduce processing times and make the experience easier for students and agents.
- A vision for growth
The government is targeting a NZ$7.2 billion international education sector by 2034, reaffirming New Zealand’s long-term commitment to international students.
These policy changes will not only strengthen New Zealand’s position as a competitive global study destination but also directly benefit Navitas students in New Zealand.
As the government plan is rolling out, now is the perfect time to explore Navitas’ diverse range of course offerings in New Zealand and support prospective students in taking the next step towards a world-class education.
