Two Navitas teachers selected to visit Indonesia with NET partner Classroom of Hope

Meet the two teachers travelling to Indonesia with NET partner Classroom of Hope!

Each year on World Teachers Day we announce an opportunity for two of our teachers to visit one of our incredible Navitas Education Trust (NET) partner projects. This year, we invited teachers to apply for the chance to visit one of our projects in the South East Asia region.

We had almost fifty applications for the exciting opportunity. Thank you to every one of our wonderful teachers who applied and shared their stories.

From this competitive pool of applicants, Shelley Barons, English Trainer and Assessor, Navitas Skilled Futures Liverpool, and Sheera Lee, AMEP Trainer and Assessor, Navitas Skilled Futures Bankstown were selected by our CEO Scott Jones to visit NET partner projects from Classroom of Hope in Lombok, Indonesia in April/May this year.

Classroom of Hope builds schools in rural parts of developing countries. NET funding currently supports the eco-block school building project in Lombok, Indonesia, and the sustainable development project in Cambodia. So far, our funding has helped to build 13 schools.

The teachers will have the opportunity to visit the newly built eco-block school in a remote community in Lombok, and island west of popular tourist destination, Bali. They will also be able to visit the eco-block factory on Lombok and see how these innovative, earthquake-proof building blocks are made.

Hear from Shelley

“I am extremely excited to be selected to represent Liverpool College on the Navitas Education Trust teacher visit to the Classroom of Hope in Lombok, Indonesia. It is an amazing opportunity to meet the wonderful Indonesian team and see the incredible work they have done, rebuilding schools and homes out of recycled plastic bricks following the devastation of Lombok after the 2018 earthquakes. And I can’t wait to meet the teachers and students there who now have a safe place to work and learn, and who I’m sure will have much to teach me about resilience and really appreciating the important things in life!”

Hear from Sheera

“I am excited about the trip to Lombok as it offers me the opportunity to witness firsthand the impact of Navitas Education Trust’s contributions to building sustainable schools. I look forward to exploring the innovative eco-block school building project and engaging with the local community, which will provide valuable insights and enriching experiences for me to share with people around me.”

Congratulations to Shelley and Sheera!
