Three weeks, four cities: Navitas connects with Indonesian schools and counsellors
This August, Navitas took its school engagement on the road, connecting with students and counsellors across four Indonesian cities, including Batam, Pekanbaru, Palembang, and Semarang.
Led by Hana Hassan, Navitas Schools & Government Liaison Manager, the three-week journey was filled with meaningful conversations, new connections and opportunities to better understand what Indonesian students are looking for as they plan their future studies.
First stop: Batam
The journey began in Batam, where Hana attended an engaging talk show featuring representatives from SIM, APU University, 3D Sense and Navitas.
The panel explored alumni success stories, student experiences, employability and future-ready programs, followed by a knowledge-sharing and Q&A session with school counsellors from Yehonala School, MAN 1 Batam, MAN 2 Batam and Maitreyawira Batam.
One question challenged each panellist to promote their university’s value into a memorable message:
“If an education counsellor only had one minute to recommend your university to a prospective student, what is the one key message you would want them to remember?”
Hana’s answer reflected Navitas’ commitment to supporting students throughout their education journey:
“If you want to graduate with confidence, career-ready skills and industry connections, start your journey with Navitas. We’ll be with you every step of the way – from application to graduation, and beyond. At Navitas, we don’t just help you earn a degree; we help you become who you’re meant to be.”
Next stop: Pekanbaru
In Pekanbaru, representatives from Navitas, APU University, 3D Sense and SIM got together for an engaging dinner session with school counsellors.
Hana shared insights into Birmingham City University International College, Lancaster University Leipzig and Navitas’ global university partner network, highlighting the range of pathways available to students looking to pursue an international education.
The evening also brought an unexpected personal connection. Hana discovered that the counsellor from MAN 2 Pekanbaru was a former university classmate, a delightful surprise that added a personal touch to an already memorable evening!
Palembang: Connecting with students and counsellors
In Palembang, Hana had an action-packed day of six school visits, combining student information sessions with “Meet the Counsellor” conversations.
At Sekolah Harapan Mulia, students were keen to learn more about business programs in Singapore and Australia, as well as scholarship opportunities.
At Sekolah Maitreyawira Palembang, excitement was building around the upcoming ICRGU Hackathon in October, with six students already signed up to take part.
Meanwhile, students at SMAN Sumatera Selatan shared their aspirations of joining the military and were highly engaged throughout the session, asking questions about their future careers and opportunities.
Hana also connected virtually with students from MAN Insan Cendekia Ogan Komering Ilir (MAN IC OKI), where conversations centred around careers in medicine and engineering, with students exploring opportunities in Indonesia, Australia and the UK.
The Palembang visit also opened the doors to connect with counsellors from SMA Kusuma Bangsa and Singapore Intercultural School SIS Palembang, exchanging ideas on how we can work together to create more opportunities for students interested in studying internationally.
Hana’s Palembang visit concluded with the famous local cuisines, including pempek, tekwan and the unforgettable spicy-sour pindang iga, adding plenty of local flavour to the journey.
Final stop: Semarang
The final trip took Hana to SMA Islam Al-Azhar 7 and SMA Batik 1 in Solo, Central Java.
Students were introduced to top notch career support and placement opportunities offered by Murdoch University Dubai, The Hague Pathway College and Birmingham City University International College.
Back in Semarang, Hana met enthusiastic students at SMA Islam Al-Azhar 14 and SMA Semesta where they learned about fast-track degree opportunities at Curtin Singapore, double-major options at Murdoch University Dubai and the international dual-degree opportunity offered through Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia.
Across every school visit, one thing stood out: Indonesian students are ambitious, curious and eager to understand how their education choices can connect them to future careers.
