Hawthorn-Melbourne celebrates 40th anniversary

In March 1986, with just one class of students, the Hawthorn English Language Centre opened its doors to international students for the very first time. Fast forward 40 years, and Hawthorn-Melbourne is what it is today because of its incredible staff (past and present), the support of its partners, and the thousands of students from around the world who chose to study with Hawthorn-Melbourne.

To mark the anniversary milestone, Hawthorn-Melbourne hosted a special 40th Anniversary celebration bringing together staff, educational agents, colleagues from the University of Melbourne and key partners from across Melbourne. The celebration was filled with laughter, reflection and even a few tears as memories from four decades were shared among colleagues and friends.

More than anything, the evening highlighted a simple truth: the true value of Hawthorn-Melbourne’s history lies in the people who have shaped it. The passionate staff who built the programs, the partners who supported its growth, and the thousands of students who travelled from around the world to learn, connect and pursue their dreams.
