ECU Sri Lanka strengthens industry connections through partnerships and expert engagements

ECU Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its commitment to industry engagement and student success through new partnerships and knowledge-sharing opportunities that enhance learning beyond the classroom.

On 8 June 2026, ECU Sri Lanka signed a Placement Agreement with Synergy Health Tech (Pvt) Ltd, expanding its network of placement organisations that support the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) component of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science program. The partnership will provide students with valuable industry exposure, practical experience, and opportunities to apply their academic knowledge in professional settings. Representatives from both organisations attended the signing ceremony, reaffirming their shared commitment to fostering meaningful collaboration between academia and industry.

In another industry engagement initiative, ECU Sri Lanka hosted a guest talk session for students enrolled in the Artificial Intelligence unit. The session, titled “Small Models, Big Impact: Why SLMs Are Powering the Next Wave of Enterprise AI,” was delivered by Dr Lahiru Ariyasinghe, Head of CEG, Data Engineering & Data Science at Axonect. Students gained valuable insights into the growing role of Small Language Models (SLMs) in enterprise environments, exploring topics such as efficiency, privacy, deployment, domain-specific applications, and hybrid AI strategies that combine SLMs and Large Language Models (LLMs).

These initiatives reflect ECU Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to connect students with industry leaders, provide real-world learning experiences, and equip graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an evolving professional landscape.
