Dr Ruchira Nandasiri receives the 2026 Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow Award

International College of Manitoba (ICM) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Dr Ruchira Nandasiri, Research Associate in the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba and Sessional Lecturer at ICM, who has been named a recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow Award.

Presented by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the award recognises exceptional postdoctoral researchers who are advancing knowledge through innovative research, meaningful mentorship, and contributions that make a lasting impact on society.

Dr Nandasiri received the award in the Natural Sciences and Engineering category for his work exploring how food can play a greater role in improving human health. His research focuses on identifying naturally occurring bioactive compounds in foods, developing innovative food processing technologies, and studying dietary approaches that help prevent and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Working alongside partners across academia, industry, healthcare, and Indigenous communities, Dr Nandasiri is helping to shape more sustainable food systems while improving our understanding of the relationship between nutrition and health. His research combines cutting-edge analytical techniques with translational research to support healthier, more nutritious food options for communities.

Beyond the lab, Dr Nandasiri is also recognised for his commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers. He has supported undergraduate and graduate students, organised national and international scientific events, and contributed to both professional and community organisations.
