Behind the scenes of graduation: an ECC student leader’s story
Being part of the Student Leadership Team for the Edith Cowan College (ECC) student graduation was one of the most rewarding experiences for Prisha PATEL. As the student leader in charge, she worked closely with staff throughout the planning process, gaining valuable insight into the level of detail and coordination required to deliver a successful event. She visited the college the day before the ceremony to review the schedule, clarify team roles, and ensure everyone was well prepared.
On the day of the graduation, Prisha and the student leaders arrived early, bringing energy and enthusiasm to their roles. Working alongside staff felt like being part of one unified team, with clear communication and strong collaboration throughout the day. Prisha was stationed at the entrance, guiding graduates and guests to the registration desks, while other student leaders managed registrations and supported staff as needed. Once registration concluded, the team moved into the hall to assist graduates as they received their awards and exited the stage. Seeing the group coordinate seamlessly in real time reinforced for her the true value of teamwork.
Several moments stood out personally for Prisha, such as taking photos together once their responsibilities were complete, reconnecting with friends who were graduating, and catching up with lecturers. These small but meaningful interactions made the experience even more special.
Overall, serving as a student leader at the graduation deepened Prisha’s understanding of leadership not only as guiding others, but also as learning from those around her. She hopes future student leaders have the opportunity to participate in events like this, as it is an experience that builds confidence, strengthens teamwork, and fosters a strong sense of community.
