Students at Lancaster University Leipzig collaborate with industry to develop new software
Lancaster University Leipzig believes the most impactful learning happens when students step out of the classroom and into the complexities of the professional world.
This philosophy is brought to life through various partnerships within the Software Design Studio III module, the capstone project of the Software Engineering BSc. A standout example of this was the QC Vision project, a collaboration with Spread Group.
Under the expert guidance of Spread Group’s Production Intelligence Team, four third-year students from Lancaster University Leipzig were tasked with a critical challenge: How can tailored software enhance industrial quality control?
The team developed an innovative software system designed to modernise quality assurance. The QC Vision project provides a seamless solution for tracking testing activities and managing results within a centralised, visually supported audit trail. By digitising these processes, the system ensures greater transparency and efficiency – qualities that are essential in high-stakes production environments.
For students, this was more than just a coding exercise; they took full ownership of the lifecycle, from gathering requirements with stakeholders to deploying the live system themselves. This close integration of theoretical software engineering principles and practical application is a cornerstone of our curriculum.
Through the partnerships, students gained invaluable experience in navigating professional workflows and stakeholder expectations, ensuring they are optimally prepared for their future careers.
