Inside the UK Supreme Court: a transformative learning experience for students

Brunel University of London Pathway College’s Social Sciences and Law students had the unique opportunity to visit the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom at the end of last month, gaining first-hand insight into the UK’s highest judicial authority.

Accompanied by Elizabeth Farebrother, lecturer at Brunel University of London Pathway College, the visit allowed students to explore the work inside the Court and deepen their understanding of how legal principles are applied in real-world contexts. From learning about landmark cases to observing the structure and function of the courtroom, the experience brought academic theory to life.

The trip also encouraged students to reflect on the broader role of law within society, highlighting its impact on justice, governance, and everyday life. For Social Sciences students, it offered a valuable interdisciplinary perspective, connecting legal frameworks with social issues and public policy.

The court visit was both educational and inspiring, reinforcing the importance of experiential learning and the support of their academic and professional development.
