ICM alumni First Runner-Up in the Accounting Matrix Case Competition

Chirag Rangwani (Chirag), an ICM alumnus and current University of Manitoba accounting student, shares his experience participating in an accounting matrix case competition.

Hear Chirag’s experience and reflection

“Participating in the Accounting Matrix Case Competition (AMCC) was a defining academic experience for me. As this was my first case competition, it was both exciting and challenging,” shared Chirag.

The team competed in two rounds: a 40-hour prepared case and a 3-hour traditional case. The 40-hour case initially felt overwhelming, as it required deep analysis, strategic structuring, and clear financial reasoning under time pressure.

“I was admittedly nervous at the start, but as we worked through the problem methodically, breaking down the financial implications, identifying operational risks, and aligning our recommendations with long-term strategic objectives, I gained confidence in both the process and our approach.”

The 3-hour traditional case was a completely different experience. By that stage, Chirag had found her rhythm. The fast-paced environment pushed her team to think critically and make decisive recommendations within tight constraints.

“I focused on delivering structured strategic solutions supported by financial analysis, and I’m grateful that the judges personally appreciated my portion of the presentation, particularly the strategies I proposed.

Finishing as First Runner-Up in my first case competition was incredibly rewarding. Beyond the result, the experience strengthened my analytical thinking, teamwork, time management, and presentation skills. It reinforced my passion for accounting and business strategy, and I look forward to participating in more competitions in the future.”
