ECC celebrates inclusion, respect & belonging: wears orange for Harmony Week
Edith Cowan College proudly celebrated Harmony Week this month by encouraging staff and students to come together and wear orange, the official colour representing inclusion, respect, and belonging.
As part of the celebrations, the college organised a fun and creative origami activity for students where they created origami cranes and other beautiful paper figures that are symbols of friendship, peace, and hope. The activity provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect, share cultures, and express creativity.
Teachers also joined in the celebrations, showing their support by wearing orange accessories such as headbands and wristbands. Some students even brought oranges as a playful way to represent their participation and commitment to Harmony Week.
Harmony Week is an annual observance that takes place in March across Australia. From 16-22 March, the nation celebrates the country’s cultural diversity and promotes the values at its heart: inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for all.
This year’s theme, “Everyone Belongs”, reinforces the idea that belonging is something we create together through everyday actions that foster understanding and connection.
Harmony Week also includes 21 March, which marks the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
ECC is proud to foster a harmonious community where diversity is valued and celebrated by both staff and students in an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and supported!
