Lancaster University Leipzig’s Challenge inspires the next generation of innovators

Last month, Lancaster University Leipzig wrapped up the inaugural edition of its high school competition across the UAE, a great debut. With 20 schools, over 60 students, and one dynamic virtual stage, the four-month journey from launch to finale was packed with energy, creativity, and ambition.

Students from across the UAE took on real-world business challenges, diving into research and transforming their ideas into eye-catching posters and compelling video pitches. The competition offered a brilliant platform to sharpen critical thinking, showcase presentation skills, and step confidently into the world of business innovation.

Supported by dedicated school counsellors, each project was carefully guided before being assessed by a panel of Lancaster University Leipzig academics. And the stakes were high – not only did students gain invaluable experience, but they also competed for exciting prizes, including a first-place trip to Leipzig to visit the university.

The online awards ceremony celebrated the standout teams:

  • 1st Place: Brine2Wings – GEMS Winchester School Dubai
  • 2nd Place: FutureDetected – The Philippine School – Dubai
  • 3rd Place: BinBuddy – The Philippine School – Dubai

Adding a personal touch, Kamila Szalast, the Director of Marketing and Recruitment, joined participating counsellors for an evening dinner in Dubai, followed by school visits the next day, where she met with winning teams and participants and personally presented their prizes.

Following the success of this pilot, Lancaster University Leipzig is set to take the challenge global, with plans to launch future editions in new countries.
