What’s the climate for transnational education? A personal weather report by Simon Guy

Professor Simon Guy is Pro-Vice-Chancellor Global (Digital, International, Sustainability) at Lancaster University. His remit includes leading the university’s digital transformation, international partnerships, and sustainability strategy, as well as overseeing development projects such as new campuses in Indonesia and Leipzig, and strengthening partnerships in China, Ghana, and Malaysia.

As a proud partner of Lancaster University in Germany and Indonesia, Navitas invited Professor Guy to give an Education Insights keynote on transnational education (TNE) at the Navitas Business Partners Conference in Cambodia.

In this clever and engaging talk, Professor Guy offered a vivid metaphorical journey through the unpredictable “weather” of TNE. Drawing from his own experience establishing five international campuses, he likened the lifecycle of TNE projects to shifting climates that can range from sunshine, to storms, and sudden heatwaves.

You can watch the video of the presentation below.

Professor Guy reminds us that transnational education is a journey of shifting conditions, requiring flexibility, diplomacy, and optimism. The barometer for TNE is in constant flux and remains as unpredictable as the British weather.

Navitas is leading the way in partnering with universities to set up global campuses. Apart from our partnership with Lancaster University in Germany and Indonesia, we also partner with Murdoch University in Dubai, Curtin University in Singapore, and Edith Cowan University in Sri Lanka.
