Empowering the next generation in Vietnam: hospitality training with KOTO

The Navitas Education Trust (NET) is proud to support KOTO, an organisation delivering hospitality education to at-risk youth in Vietnam.

The Navitas Education Trust (NET) has partnered with KOTO – Know One Teach One twice since we began operation in 2013. After our first partnership beginning in 2017, we were delighted to partner with KOTO again in 2023 for a three-year partnership.

About the NET

The Navitas Education Trust (NET) funds education projects that help people gain better access to education, creating positive far-reaching impact for many communities around the world. Since 2013, we have partnered with forward-thinking and sustainability-oriented organisations bringing education to disadvantaged communities across the globe.

About KOTO

KOTO is the first social enterprise in Vietnam, providing positive, permanent change for at-risk and disadvantaged youth in a two-year hospitality training program that incorporates both vocation training and life skills.

KOTO Foundation, extending from Australia to Vietnam, cares for the disadvantaged and underprivileged youth of Vietnam. The Foundation is supported by an international body of individual and corporate sponsors, donors, partners and goodwill ambassadors committed to the Know One, Teach One principle and its efforts to improve the lives of Vietnamese youth.

KOTO’s founder, Jimmy Pham AM, shares ‘I am honoured to find our alumni in every leading hotel and restaurant across the length and breadth of Vietnam. Many alumni are now running their own businesses and providing internship opportunities for KOTO trainees and employing KOTO graduates themselves. With their qualification, many have been awarded scholarships to continue their studies in Australia and several are working in Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and Singapore. I am especially proud when our alumni return to work at the KOTO Training Centre and our restaurants or catering services in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to enrich the lives of our trainees and encourage them to also dream large.’

Our partnership

The latest round of NET funding at KOTO has supported three classes of trainees in their hospitality training programs – Class 42, 43, and 44.

The team at KOTO created a video to share the Impact that NET funding has had on a handful of students from their two-year hospitality training program. Hear from three students in the video to learn more about their experiences in their training program.

Impact at Navitas

At Navitas, we consider our impact through three lenses: as an educator, an employer, and a global citizen. Community contribution and development outcomes, which includes the NET, is one of our twelve priority impact topics, falling under the lens of global citizen.
