Navitas expands into the Netherlands via partnership with University of Twente

23rd Jul, 2018   Feature story:

Navitas is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with the University of Twente to take over its pathway program for international students. The agreement follows Navitas successfully competing in the university’s selection procedure for the provision of these services.

The pathway college will offer undergraduate foundation programs taught in English in Science, Engineering, Business and Social Studies which will provide successful students access to programs at the university such as Advanced Technology, Engineering, Industrial Design, Applied Mathematics, Creative Technology and International Business Administration.

The University of Twente is a public research university located in Enschede, The Netherlands. It is recognised as among the world’s best universities in fields such as nanotechnology, engineering, IT, robotics and geo-information science. Entrepreneurial spirit is one of the core values of the institution and the university is committed to making economic and social contributions to the Netherlands.

The college will commence teaching in September 2019, with a five-year agreement in place.

“We are delighted to be expanding the University Partnerships Division into continental Europe via this new partnership with the University of Twente, a top 200 globally ranked institution,” said Navitas Group Chief Executive Officer, David Buckingham.

“The University will make an ideal partner as it's well known for its high quality academic outcomes and its commitment to student experience, and is located in a very attractive region.”

“Expansion of our pathway model into the Netherlands is also an exciting opportunity as the country has high quality education institutions, favourable immigration regulations, a growing international education sector and attractive price points for potential students,” Mr Buckingham concluded.

“For us as a university it’s important that prospective students from abroad are able to begin their programme well prepared,” says Victor van der Chijs, President of the Executive Board of the University of Twente.

“It can’t always be assumed that the education they have previously experienced is a good match for our Bachelor’s programmes. For instance regarding the focus or the level of specific subjects that are essential for successful participation in a Bachelor’s programme at the UT.”

“By offering students an extensive programme that’s more or less comparable with a pre-Master’s for a Master’s programme, we ensure that they can participate optimally from day one.”

The ultimate success of the college (and its significance to Navitas) will depend on a number of factors including, but not limited to the following:

- Quality student outcomes and experience

- Student enrolment levels

- Partner university location and ranking

- Competitive regulatory environment

- Attractiveness of the country as a destination to international students

While Navitas do not publicly release student enrolment numbers on an individual college, we do release student enrolment data on a regular basis.
