Birmingham City University International College (BCUIC)

Birmingham, the UK’s second city!

Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK and has all of the facilities you will ever need for a productive and enjoyable UK study experience (it also has the second largest student population in the UK). Birmingham is served by superb transport facilities, including light rail, an extensive bus network and its own international airport. These will be expanded further in the coming years with HS2 rail coming to the city. Our airport is also extending at the moment to allow students to fly directly from all over the world to explore our wonderful city. In fact, Birmingham was voted in the top 20 places in the world to visit in 2012 by the New York Times. With over 75000 students studying in the city, it has a great, youthful atmosphere with plenty to see and do. And, we are only 1 hour and 10 minutes from Central London by train. As Birmingham is right in the heart of the UK, all of the major UK cities are really easy to visit.

Something for everyone

In Birmingham you will never be bored. Renowned as one of the best shopping destinations in Europe, the city hosts some of the world’s most iconic brands including Selfridges in the Bullring. With markets, our famous Jewellery Quarter and over 1000 shops within 20 minutes’ walk of each other, there is truly something for everyone.

If shopping isn’t your thing, we also have a huge range of restaurants with cuisine from all over the world. Birmingham is a truly multicultural city with something to offer every taste. Birmingham is famous for our Chinatown and our curry houses. The Balti was actually invented in Birmingham and the best exponents of this type of cuisine can be found in our very own ‘Balti Triangle’. We also have plenty more food options from all over the world.

If you like sports, Birmingham is a truly remarkable city. With 4 major football teams nearby, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City F.C, the opportunities to watch top-class football on your doorstep are a major bonus for the students who come to Birmingham. You can see teams like Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea when they come to play our local teams. We are also home to the world-famous Edgbaston cricket ground and the National Indoor Arena where some of the world’s greatest athletes come to compete. During the London 2012 Olympic games, Usain Bolt and the Jamaican and U.S teams were based in Birmingham to train before the Games began.

If music is your thing, some of the biggest bands in the world play in Birmingham at the LG Arena, O2 Academy and NIA. We also have the Birmingham Hippodrome for lovers of theatre and Ballet.

So, there truly is something for everyone.
